Tuesday's class discussion really had me questioning the thought of the American Dream. I think that when our country was founded, it a real phenomenon for most immigrants who came to the US. The freedom that our country provided was the most appealing for most of these people.
Since the days when Ellis Island was the destination for many immigrants, the times have changed. I agree that there are institutional problems that can get in the way of equal opportunity with the American Dream. It's becoming more and more difficult for people to land a career and have a disposable income with today's job market
Believing in the American Dream is something that mostly foreigners still think of when making decisions to come here, although there are some limitations on how successful foreigners can be right off the bat. The idea that hard work will lead to success in America is the right motivation that everyone should have i believe, whether they are a natural born citizen or not.
