Binghamton flood destroying wealth

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s0VYzmh96s&feature=share

This past week my hometown suffered severe flooding where hundreds were evacuated from their homes and many businesses were destroyed. Many lost their homes, cars, and pretty much everything they own. In class we discussed wealth compared to income and how wealth was largely determined by housing. I talked to my family back home about how many families lost their home and therefore lost the majority of their wealth. Wealth contributes to identifying who you are as a person and now all these individuals lost a part of who they are. They have nothing. All these people now have lost so much they just had a couple days ago.

  2. I have friends that live in bing, one of which lives on conklin closer to the city, and his apartment had water almost reaching the second floor. I also heard the majority of the flooding was within the city... and those are probably the people who have less wealth to begin with, just something to think about.

  3. I lived in Endwell a suburb of Binghamton for the first 18 years of my life, its beyond sad to watch the videos and recognize so many places I used to frequent absolutely destroyed. The floods are going to have an incredible impact on this region which was already in an economic decline, the added pressures will certainly tax the people of broome county for a long time. This is a reminder that the wealth from which we derive so much of our stability can be gone in the blink of an eye.
