Reverse Racism

I know as soon as some of you saw the title of this post you went into defense mode so let me just say, relax. And read this article about the myth of reverse racism.

I think the author really made a good point when he talked about how "reverse racism" or racism against 'whites' is much less severe and usually comical. Racial slurs aimed at whites hardly have the same connotation, or power as racial slurs aimed at blacks. Even our insults can't be equal... The author goes on to talk about how even if the racial slurs towards whites are hurtful, that's as far as they'll go. That white person will still be able to get the job they want, the loan they need, or the house they're thinking of buying. I had never considered this before when I though about reverse racism, but it's true. I think this goes back to the discussion we had on 'white privilege' and how whites don't even think about it. Maybe we should all make an effort to become more conscious of these issues, although many don't want to see them.

The author then begins a discussion on racial privilege within a class system because let's face it, wealthy black congressmen have much more power then the poor white college student. But when we are within our own class there's non excuse, everyone is on the same playing field (at least in theory...).

The article overall is pretty eye-opening. It makes you realize that reverse racism really is just a joke. Even when someone is trying to be serious. After all, whites hold the power, the ball is in their court.
