Detroit

My first blog post is going to be about the reading we all
had to do called, "Detroit's
Time Bomb". This reading was about housing in segregated Detroit.
There were not a lot of houses that were suit for living in so the lower class
people had to suffer. In this case a lot of these people were African
Americans. One woman said that her entire family had to sleep in the living
room and it was cold and wet. This made her baby sick because she was living in
an unlivable house. I think it is terrible that this family had to suffer and
were not allowed to find better property. African Americans tried to own
property but that didn't work. The article says, "African Americans in Detroit
faced formidable barriers in the city's housing market" and the reason is
pretty obvious. I don't think that people should be denied property based on
their skin color. They should all be allowed to buy whatever house they desire.
People who owned houses rented them out for a outrageously large amount for
people to pay. It is disgusting that African-Americans were given to bad
houses. There were nicknames for the poor sections of Detroit,
"Black Bottom". Everyone was treated unfairly but it was the
African-Americans who got the worst of it. Skin color should not determine
one's class or what house they deserve to live in.
