Red Lining

While looking around for articles to do my blog post on I found a Wikipedia page on red lining:  Wiki Red Lining.

I personally thought it was insane looking at the maps of ethnic distribution across various major cities.  Despite the fact that blatant, outright red lining is much less prominent than in years passed, more discrete forms of racism have taken up the duty of segregating cities.  Being a Buffalo native (well, Tonawanda, a suburb of Buffalo) one map that particularly shocked me was that of Buffalo.  Not to say that I am ignorant to the state of racial affairs here, racism is still prominent as ever both institutionally and on an individual level, but to see that it was a matter of crossing the street to go from an overwhelming black majority to an overwhelming white majority is crazy.  It puts it into perspective exactly how big of a problem this actually is and how long it will take to even put a dent in integrating the segregated populations.
