segregated Buffalo

in class thursday we discussed the top segregated cities in the united states and buffalo was one of them. although the topic of different reasons for which everyone seems to be so segregated came up and there were plenty of good reasons , none were good enough for me to just exept and be ok with. topics included: transportation, jobs, etc. i'm not sure im buying into that since our transit system today simply continues to grow and expand, anyone can get from any point A to almost any point B. As for the whole job topic i'm also not sold on that since most of all the jobs are located in the city! every morning on my way to school (amherst) there is no traffic jam, never in the three years that i have been attending UB has there been one heading towards amherst or niagara falls, but every morning on my way to school just across the express way heading into the city there is a monster traffic jam! rather it be court, work, or school the city is generating the most traffic which intern means more jobs, no? i feel that buffalo is so segregated because of fear, not only fear from the media but also fear of the unknown. I have had times here in buffalo where i have been embarassed by someone or treated differently because of my race, i was juged for my tatoos and my skin color and based on stereotypes. i feel that this is just the norm for everyone, every race included. its funny how a person or a group of people can put there life at risk to go study or protect an endangered species or animal or a forest. if we took a quarter of that time to sit and learn from the people around us about the people around us, maybe our city can be different.
