Native Americans acting roles

Not only were Native Americans mashed together into one stereotypical nation of savages by Hollywood, but they weren't even allowed to play their own parts. Instead, they were represented by white actors in "red face". Thinking deeper though, I feel like they really wouldn't even want to play those roles. Although they would play the part of Sitting Bull or Geronimo, they would be playing the role of their own stereotype; one which dug them into societal prejudices and disenfranchisement. I think that these peoples' only response through the media would've been to make their own films, depicting actual Native culture. Obviously they did make their own films but so few and little got the attention of the American public. Hollywood took advantage of an already ravaged people to make money, just like they did with racist films on African Americans (The Birth of a Nation).
